News. You can’t escape it. Could be about someone else, could be about you. Could be politics. Could be sports. Could be financial. Could be anything. Pete Townshend said “too much of anything is too much for me.” Bob Dylan said “too much of nothing can make a man feel ill at ease.” Sometimes, bad news can be good news at the same time. Or it can morph into good news once the bad news phase has been dealt with. Maybe you’re a news junkie, keeping MSNBC on or listening to 1010 WINS every 22 minutes. Then you may get notifications on your phone. Maybe you turn it all off, decide to go off-grid, so you stop in for one at Tierney’s. The guy next to you, whose wife never says anything after ordering a hot dog and cole slaw, he says something topical via listening in on your conversation, tells you what he thinks about Biden and Trump, even though that may not be, a), what you were talking about, and b), you didn’t ask him. It isn’t like you stopped your own conversation and said, “hey, hang on, let me just ask this schmegeggy here what he thinks.” Not like you have to ask him anyway, he’ll just tell you. Either way, news is coming. Some news you’d rather not have. So look for your personal good news. Someone may call it ‘counting one’s blessings.’ Bad news doesn’t mean you don’t already have personal good news.

Politically, on a National level, I’m not sure where the good news is. Baseball, concerning my New York Yankees specifically, I can tell you where the good news isn’t: the hitting (other than Judge, Soto, and now Ben Rice). And the starting pitching is both good news (Gil overall) and bad news (Rodon overall).

In other good news, I just saw Robert Plant & Alison Krauss, Bob Dylan, and Willie Nelson in upstate New York. The good news is, Plant & Krauss and Uncle Bobby were fantastic. And Willie being able to perform was great news on it’s own. But he was excellent, especially guitar-wise on a few blues tunes.
