60 years ago today, Buck Owens records both A and B sides for an upcoming single, “My Hearts Skips a Beat,” and “Together Again.” “Together Again” would bump “My Heart Skips a Beat” out of the #1 spot on the Country Singles chart. In turn, “My Heart Skips a Beat” would bump “Together Again” from that spot to reclaim #1. “Together Again” features what is commonly thought of as one of the greatest pedal steel guitar solos in Country music history, played by Tom Brumley. It inspired an aspiring guitar player named Jerry Garcia to learn the instrument.

This got me thinking about B-side’s that became the hit single. “Gloria” by Them was the B-side to “Baby Please Don’t Go.” The legendary “Green Onions” by Booker T. & the MG’s was the B-side to the little remembered “Behave Yourself.” Rod Stewart’s “Maggie May” was the B-side to “Reason to Believe.” Even “Rock Around the Clock” was a B-side. One of my favorites was the B-side to “Let’s Spend the Night Together”:
